Cool cut’n’paste zine from down in Louisiana, one of the states that I believe, until now, that I had never received any material from. Done by a college-age girl, the pasted bits are much better then the others I’ve reviewed lately. The 32 pages provide us with amazingly good reading for the short amount of pages and large amount of visual aids. This zine has an excellent mix of personal politics and experiences, achieving a balance that only a few zines can claim. Jen actually doesn’t spout the same rhetoric that legions of other liberals have spouted for the last decade, but finds new information, and uses it for good. An example of this is the mention in the zine, during the “hot topic girl” piece that Gap owns Hot Topic. The one super-plus Jen gets is for promoting her local scene by having show listings. Moving away from the traditional conventions of the zine, Jen goes and places tons of images on two pages, with only a minor amount of comments to support them. This gambit actually works to her benefit, further distinguishing the zine from the number of other politper paste zines on the market today. Jen says that the magazine is “poo”, but if that is the case, then I definitely want to see what a zine that she thinks is good is like.
