After distributing free limited edition DVD’s at CMJ, Holler, Wild Rose! (http://www.myspace.com/hollerwildrose) has now released their new music video for the song “Marylawn Hair.” The video was directed by Holler, Wild Rose! guitarist and NYU Film graduate, Ryan Cheresnick and Holler, Wild Rose! bassist and Montclair State University film graduate, Scott Vangenderen.

The film features a cameo appearance by Sounds Familyre recording artists Ben & Vesper (http://www.myspace.com/benandvesper) and was sponsored by KODAK who graciously donated all of the film for the project.

Director, Ryan Cheresnick said of the project, “Every project, especially a first music video made on a teeny budget, is a process of collaboration and inspiration; you wouldn’t be watching Mary Lawn Hair if it weren’t for the generosity of some folks who believed in the value of our idea and our music.

I wouldn’t have been able to experiment with the Super 8 format had it not been for the sponsorship of Kodak, an aesthetic I think really pulls you into the absurdist dream world of our mole.

We also owe a big thanks to all our friends who ran around the woods in the middle of winter and sat at our dining table, the dancing kids, designers, family who let us shoot in their home, and of course, Backlight Records (who has, like usual, gone above and beyond their call of duty as our label and as the all-around good guys they are).

It did ‘come off like we wanted,’and we hope it makes you smile or laugh or at least confused enough that you want to watch it again.”

Having been selected as one of five artists featured on the Rhapsody/Pacifico Indie Music Hub page (www.rhapsodyextras.com/pacifico/), Backlight Records recording artist Holler,Wild Rose! was recently featured on, “BBC Introducing,” hosted by Tom Robinson on BBC 6 in England as well as “BBC Radio Bristol Introducing,” hosted by Richard Pitt & Gary Smith on BBC Radio Bristol.

Holler, Wild Rose!’s debut album Our Little Hymnal was created over two years and released in September of 2007. Featured as a Napster (US) and iTunes Australia Staff Pick on the day of release, the album has gone on to receive significant airplay on over 150 US and Canadian stations including regular spins on stations such as KCRW, WXPN, WBOS, XM Satellite Radio and Bagel Radio. Additionally, Our Little Hymnal is also currently being heard on internet and terrestrial radio stations in Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Australia and The United Kingdom.

Since the album’s release, Holler! has been featured on NPR’s Second Stage, in Performing Songwriter Magazine , as a Sonicbids Spotlight Artist, a CMJ Festival 2007 Artist of the week and Mathieu Schreyer of KCRW selected Our Little Hymnal as one of his top 10 albums of 2007.

Holler Wild Rose!’s song “Marylawn Hair” was featured as part of the FILTER Magazine “Subway Series” Compilation released for CMJ 2007 (alongside artists such as PJ Harvey, Joy Division, Counting Crows and Oslo) and their song “Sun Vines” is included in the 2008 TEVA Anthology Vol. 6 (with Iron & Wine, Nada Surf, Sia and Dave Matthews). Additionally, Holler, Wild Rose! was selected as FILTER Magazine’s March 2008 Undiscovered Band of the Month leading to features on the band on FILTER’s website and in their print magazine.

Ted Leibowitz of Bagel Radio had this to say about Our Little Hymnal:

“Had The Verve not imploded, and instead hired a Thom Yorke-ophile Jeff Buckley to sing his interpretation of Sigur Rós covering Loveless, you’d have Holler, Wild Rose! Our Little Hymnal creates the dark, almost frighteningly personal, ultimately redemptive atmospherics of a moving black and white art film. This is music to immerse oneself in — unplug everything else, put on the headphones, turn out the light, recline comfortably, and let the songs carry you off to wherever each takes you.”

NPR’s Second Stage said:

“Holler, Wild Rose! channel psychedelic energy into powerful, moving shoegaze rock.”
