The Dark Romantics is a Florida based quintet that features Eric Collins and Dean Paul, ex-members of Denison Marrs, The John Ralston Band, and The Party People. Collins and Paul are backed by three beautiful and remarkably talented ladies: Carla Jones on drums (Collins’s wife), Amanda Jones on keys (Jones’s sister and Paul’s wife), and Stephanie Solomon on drums (the girls’ best friend). Working within such a tight-knit group of players, it’s no wonder Collins and Paul showcase some of their most powerful and hard-hitting material to date.

“Hush Your Mouth” (MP3) and “Heartbreaker,” (MP3) two new singles from their sophomore effort Heartbreaker, are now available for download. Muruch described The Dark Romantics as “a mix of The Killers retro-influenced synth pop and Radiohead melancholia, with a hint of the catchier side of Siouxsie & The Banshees” and Creative Loafing described the single “Heartbreaker” as “a noir-ish number with fascinating, fractured guitar work, echo-y drums and dreamy strings that wrap around singer Eric Collins’ hazy, Thom Yorke-esque croon.” As is true of past records, there’s no shortage of superlative song-writing here. Songs like “Love and Pain” and “Let’s Ride” (MP3) are epic, but accessible, driving their way into your head by way of tasteful rock hooks not heard in the mainstream since Radiohead’s OK Computer.

Loving the road as much as The Raven, The Dark Romantics has been assembling its ever-growing fan base by sharing bills with The Mooney Suzuki, Murder By Death, and John Ralston. The Dark Romantics new album Heartbreaker is available now via the new tastemaker indie-rock label Lujo Records (Pomegranates, Look Mexico).
