On Friday, January 22, 2010, a bevy of Chicago-based musicians and artists are coming together to showcase their most recent work and celebrate the release of a new album – Joan of Arc Presents: Don’t Mind Control – during one special night of eclectic sounds and captivating sights.

Don’t Mind Control is a unique, limited edition compilation featuring brand new songs from 18 Chicago based bands whose members have collaborated with frontman Tim Kinsella under the Joan of Arc moniker. The record, which includes hometown favorites such as Owen and Ghosts and Vodka, is set for official release on January 26, 2010 through Polyvinyl Records.

For an album as diverse and ambitious as Don’t Mind Control, it’s only fitting that the events surrounding its release are equally as expansive.

The night will kick off at the Andrew Rafacz Gallery (http://www.andrewrafacz.com) from 6-9 PM with its two week run of “Postcard Trouble,” an art show featuring new paintings and photography by frequent Joan of Arc contributors Bobby Burg and Jeremy Bolen. Both artists will also be performing a free set with their current band, Vacations, at this opening night reception.

Proceeding the art show, at 10 PM, the Empty Bottle will host the Don’t Mind Control Variety Show – an almost all-inclusive concert featuring many of the musicians who contributed to the compilation. Acts scheduled to perform at this one-time gathering of the Joan of Arc family tree include: Tim Kinsella, Vacations (ex-Chin Up, Chin Up), Jeremy Boyle, Lites Alive, Disappears, A Tundra, Pillars and Tongues, Matt Clark and The Zoo Wheel (with more TBA). Tickets for the Variety show can be purchased HERE.

In addition to the Variety show, Joan of Arc will be playing a few other shows in late Dec/early January to support Don’t Mind Control and their previous release, Flowers. The first of these shows will also be at Chicago’s Empty Bottle with Victor Villarreal (Capn’ Jazz, Owls, Ghosts and Vodka), Male, and My Empty Phantogram. After that, Joan of Arc will travel to Japan for seven shows with Owen. Check out the complete list of dates and details below.
