With The Day The Earth Stood Still doing well in box offices, it only made sense for Fox to come forth and re-release the original in the Blu-Ray format. Most individuals that would be reading this review would already know what the film is about: a spaceship lands, saying they come in peace, while it seems up to only two individuals to save the world after the emissary seems to be different than what ey is putting out to the public.

The original film is sharp, coming forth as some of the strongest transfers from the original source that has ever been seen, while the amount of added bonus features is simply stunning. Couple that with the equally-sharp audio cut, and individuals will have a release in the Blu-Ray form of The Day The Earth Stood Still that is definitive, an experience to behold. While there are some normal releases such as still galleries and an interactive pressbook, what will really get fans of the original film going would have to be the countless Blu-ray Exclusives and featurettes releases specifically for this edition of the film.

Heck, even the different subtitles available show that Fox is attempting to step their game up, as viewers can either have subtitles in English, Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin. But back to the featurettes: the interactive theramin option allows individuals to mess with a digital version of the instrument, while an intellectual discussion is created through the work of individuals such as William Stromberg, Steven Smith and Nick Redman.

The “A Brief History of Flying Saucers” is essential for anyone that wants to see exactly how much of a worldwide (instead of Western) phenomenon that flying saucers are. Finally, the reading of the original work that spawned the film (“Farewell to the Master”) provides a better context for the original film, and will allow individuals to link the two films and the short story together and see what things have changed (or have stayed the same). Make sure to pick up a copy of this Blu-Ray, as select ones have e-Movie cash to reimburse anyone who watches the remade film. Pretty good deal, if you ask me.
