Tour De France – Taking you on a ride!

Tour De France is the songwriting team of Bernadette Colomine and Samuel H Collin. Based in Los Angeles, California, Tour De France composes original songs in French. Sam and Bernadette share a mutual passion for writing hook driven songs that draw from a broad spectrum of the musical universe. Combining influences like Brigitte Fontaine, Serge Gainsbourg, The Ramones, Leonard Cohen and Lee Hazelwood, TDF crafts infectious songs that once heard remain in your mind for a long time thereafter. Listeners from age five to seventy-five are found singing the sexy French hooks, regardless of their native tongue.

Deviating from the traditional route taken by indie bands with European roots, the band has made a strategic decision to release all of their material in French. L’Aventure is the first release from the duo. It has been recently accepted into the music library at KCRW (Home of Morning Becomes Eclectic) in Los Angeles. The band recently opened for Rufus Wainwright at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles on his final leg of the Release the Stars tour.

L’Aventure – The first leg of the Tour!

L’Aventure the first release from Tour De France is a veritable who’s who of the LA music scene. Half the album was co-produced by Bernadette and Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde). The other half of the songs we’re co-produced by Bernadette and Samuel H Collin (Virgin Killer, Acetylene Hayes). The same steady handed rhythm section is present on the entire record with Drumming by David Kendrick (Sparks, Devo and Jude) and Bass by Dvin Kirakosian (Courtney Love).

The album was recorded at Charlie McGovern’s studio in North Hollywood in 2007. The first sessions occurred in the spring with Johnette Napolitano co-producing the titles Je Collectionne Les J, Qu’est-ce tu fais dans la vie, Les Ex and the sultry Bonheur Suspendu. This session deftly captures the essence of sixties French Pop. Like the spring season itself, the songs bloom with rich sonic color and energize the spirit.

The second sessions were recorded at the same studio with Samuel H Collin co-producing the titles Faussaire, Soleil Dans L’ombre, Ce Soir, Merde and Le Cerf Volant. The second session found Tour De France exploring the heavier side of their influences on songs like Merde and Faussaire. They also indulge their love of a good pop song on titles Ce Soir and Soleil. In keeping with the autumnal mood, Tour De France explores music’s darker more introspective nature on the moving closer Le Cerf Volant.
