Twelve years into it, South Park still manages to be surprisingly fresh. Any argument against that statement is squelched with the third episode into this collection, “Major Boobage,” an homage to the classic stoner cartoon Heavy Metal thanks to cat urine. Sure the cartoons are still crudely drawn and the jokes even cruder, but let’s be honest you either think fourth graders saying “fuck” is funny or you don’t.

I tend to think it’s hilarious. While adult cartoons staples like The Simpsons and King of the Hill have tended to age and lose a bit of their edge (if you consider King of the Hill edgy), South Park has remained extremely timely and has been willing to use satire as a weapon.

Some of the targets in Season 12 are a bit played out (like Britney Spears in “Britney’s New Look”), but others are on the mark, like George Lucas and Steven Spielberg continuously defiling Indiana Jones thanks to the dreadful Crystal Skull movie (“The China Probrem”). There are also sharp jabs at Canadians (a favorite target of creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker) High School Musical (“Elementary School Musical”) and Internet culture (“Overlogging.”) Twelve seasons down and the show is just hitting its creative peak.
