Formed in Edinburgh in 2003, We Were Promised Jetpacks tasted success early when they won their high school’s battle of the bands competition. The four-piece came to FatCat’s attention when listening to some of the friends on the Frightened Rabbit’s (now labelmates) MySpace page. We Were Promised Jetpacks had already gotten attention and airplay from KEXP, XFM, and the BBC – before any official release – on the strength of a widely-circulated three-song demo.

Like fellow Scotsmen Frightened Rabbit and The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks bring emotional intensity to the forefront in their immensely appearling rock anthems. Adding nimble, driving rhythms and bristling tension into the mix, they unfold their songs into effortless-seeming choruses imbued with romanticism and pop sensibility.

We Were Promised Jetpacks were the main support for Frightened Rabbit’s September 2008 European tour where crowds arrived early on each evening due to the band’s huge buzz. We Were Promised Jetpacks have already been covered prominently in publications overseas such as NME, featured as Q’s Track of the Day and been played on Zane Lowe to great acclaim. With an album due in June on FatCat and a number of appearances at this year’s SXSW festival, 2009 is sure to be busy and rewarding year for We Were Promised Jetpacks.

An MP3 of “Ships With Holes Will Sink” is available now. Please contact us for music and additional press materials.
