This is the first time that we have had the chance to review a Celebrity Video Distribution title, and I have to say that we here at NeuFutur have missed some talent by this exclusion. The Dead Don’t Scream has an excellent print, providing sharp video married right alongside audio that is easily equivalent to that of the movie theatres. The film goes into the tired horror genre and makes a story that will titillate and interest viewers throughout its runtime: a group of students go to a camp for some rest and relaxation, only to experience some post-partum syndrome.
While that encompasses the whole of the film, the parallels that the directors make between man and machine are something that will actually make viewers think, rather than just trying to out-gore and out-spook previous efforts in the genre. While some places would categorize this as a grindhouse film, Richard Perrin (writer/director) really expands upon the tenets of the genre and makes this into a film that will last, no matter how long it has been since the last time that the viewer has popped the film into the player.
The docket for CVD is full-up for the next few months, so if you find yourself to be a fan of horror movies, they should be the next distributors that you check out. While I have little idea about their non-horror offerings at this point, The Dead Don’t Scream is at a high enough quality that movie-heads should make the plunge. For those that have seen the movie and like what Perrin does here, make it a point to check out eir company’s next films in Voodoo Carnival and Prophecy 2012.
