I can’t say that I have been a fan of Twiztid since the beginning, because to be honest I did not know of them until about 2002 or so, when I first heard “Diemuthafuckadie”. Since then, however, I’ve kept up with their releases, be it as a duo (“Freek Show”, “Man’s Myth”, “Independents Day”) or as solo artists (“Phatso”, “Chainsmoker”). With a little bit of education under my belt then, I feel that “W.I.C.K.E.D.” is the most fulfilling release of Twiztid’s career, with some serious evolution taking place since “Independents Day”. I would say that the public at large would agree with that statement; “W.I.C.K.E.D.” is Twiztid’s highest charting album to date.

What exactly makes “W.I.C.K.E.D.” such a solid album, though? To fully understand why, one needs to go out and get the full amount of recordings for the album, meaning that they either have to stop by Hot Topic and Best Buy or Hatchetgear. The album itself seems to have a theme to it that is present in a much more tangible way than was present even during the “Man’s Myth”/”Mutant” period. Hell, the cohesion enjoyed by these tracks rivals that of even Insane Clown Posse’s “The Wraith: Shangri-La”. Coupled with this album-level cohesion is the quality of each track, meaning that Twiztid doesn’t slack off, whether the disc is just beginning (“Kill With Us”, “Buckets of Blood”) or coming to a close (“When I Go To Hell”, “Woe Woe”).

“That’s Wicked” is just one of many high points on the album, and achieves this lofty position due to absolutely intense raps by both Monoxide and Jamie Madrox, coupled by the production laid down by Eric Davie. The evolution of Twiztid experienced on “W.I.C.K.E.D.” takes a different path than the way most other acts grow up; where acts like The Rolling Stones or Metallica seem to push the new while largely ignoring the old, Twiztid incorporate sounds, styles, rap flows and subject material from all points of their careers, even including bits and pieces of their House of Krazees days at points. Make it a point to pick up “W.I.C.K.E.D.” and be ready for the upcoming “End of Days Tour”, which begins near NeuFutur HQ on April 13th, at Peabody’s (Cleveland, Ohio).
