Where X Blades may only get a single rack at your local game store where titles like Madden 2009 get five or six, there is no doubt in my mind that the experience that any gamer will get from this title far outstrips even the biggest games on the market. This is due to the fact that South Peak (and Gaijin Entertainment) have made an extremely addictive game that gives players a tremendous amount of replay value.

The game itself is a hack and slash title that takes various amounts of games like Devil May Cry, Gauntlet, and Magic Sword to heart; the solid game play first created by each of these titles is married to graphics that are cutting edge for the PS3. The inclusion of additional skills for the lead character, Ayumi, to use is something that allows for further differentiation than most games in this genre. Furthermore, the addition of these skills ensures that the character takes on qualities that are distinctly different from other players going through the same levels.

The endings that are present (2 in total) provide further ability for players to go through the game, rather than putting up the title as soon as the credits roll. While players can go through the game doing little more than hitting buttons, the ability to inject a little more in the way of strategy into how Ayumi kills creates makes for (in my opinion) a much more interesting and intriguing game. If you find yourself to be a fan of titles like Heavenly Sword, X Blades has to be the next title of that vein to purchase. The brilliantly-rendered graphics, coupled with enough enemies to kill the Grand Canyon, provides the perfect mindless slashfest that players love. The inclusion of different RPG elements save the title from being truly mindless: South Peak has yet another hit on their hands with this title; hopefully a sequel will be in the cards in the near future.
