Coming off like a British version of Sex and The City, without the obsessive comments about shoes, Pulling does a far better job of appealing to members of both sexes. The first season of the show, originally aired in the UK in 2006, is finally making it to the U.S. via DVD.

The 30-minute show focuses on three women: Donna, a 30-year old who decides to break off her engagement with long time boyfriend Karl just days before the wedding; Karen, an elementary school teach who likes sex and booze; and Louise, the more down-to-earth of the trio who works in a café (also a big fan of sex).

The six episodes, though far from being groundbreaking, still manage to be wittier than anything on Sex and the City, focusing more on creating strong likable characters, rather than relying on over the top scenarios. Don’t get too attached to the characters, though. With only one more season made before the show was cancelled, Pulling is bound to be filed alongside a slew of other TV shows that were smothered just as they were finding an audience.
