While I was about a decade out from being born when Rhoda hit the airwaves, I still was fairly cognizant of the show through the reruns that were present on TV Land and the like. I was actually surprised when I received this DVD set, as I did not believe that a show like Rhoda was scorned for so long in regards to having a DVD set released. For those individuals that did not have the chance to watch or learn about the show in any capacity, Rhoda ran between 1974 and 1978, and was originally spun off from The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

The DVD set that was just released by Shout! Factory celebrates the 35th anniversary of the show’s beginning date, and features the entirety of the twenty five shows that comprised the first season. This is the first time that the show has been released on a home video format since 1998, which even then only covered bits and pieces of episodes from the different seasons. Shout! Factory has done a great job in finding strong sources for their footage, ensuring that the audio and video are as crisp and as clear as they can conceivably be given the circumstances.

The price point for the DVD set comes in at under $35, and purchases of this DVD should be enough of a reason for Shout! Factory to go and finish up the collection in the months and years to come. If you were a fan of the Mary Tyler Moore show and missed out on the first showings of Rhoda, then this DVD set is for you. All of the humor and situational comedy still seems as fresh and as vibrant as it did all these years ago, and the package ensures that viewers will be kept busy for the space of nearly a half day.
