The amount of different pieces that are present in an average issue of SLUG is just impressive. I know that we here at NeuFutur have given a number of different SLUG issues a review, but sometimes I just have to take a step and see exactly how much work has been done in the creation of an issue. The star power that is present in this issue is impressive, focusing on musicians such Genesi Breyer P-Orridge (Psychic TV), The Hold Steady, and more local acts like Blue Sunshine Soul and The Naked Eyes. The one thing (among many) that stands out in this issue of SLUG would have to be the countless styles and approaches taken with the different pieces present. There are brilliant flashes of color, different era influencing the pieces, and yet individuals can easily read everything that is presented here. The advertisement count is similar to other issues, being a little higher than most independent magazines but providing further information with each local business that is present. While there are a number of different pieces that are similar through the different issues, I would have to say that the “Beer Reviews” section has really settled in well, being better and better each issue. I would personally love to see this feature expanded in future issues. As I always say, pay the few bucks for SLUG to ship you a copy of its latest issue, or if you are around Utah, make a trip to the city and get your copy free.
