While “The Last One Awake” is a solid way of introduction to the gothic approach taken by TyLean here on “Between 10 and 2”, I feel that listeners should give an equal (if not increased) focus to the disc’s second track, “Corner Of My Eye”. This is due to the fact that TyLean takes on so much during this track, meaning that there are challenges to traditional time signatures on the piano side, while the vocals touch upon Tori Amos, Rasputina, and even more tribal vocalists.

Taken all together, “Corner Of My Eye” is a track that requires multiple listeners to fully understand what all TyLean has hidden in the space of only a few minutes. “Rosalyn” continues this new and impressive sound, bringing strings in in a most unexpected way. Where theway that they are presented may seem off-putting to some, they create a solid bond with TyLean’s vocals and set the track off from practically anything that listeners will have ever heard.

“Out of Sight, Out of Mind” looks to renovate traditional arrangements through tightly-placed piano lines; what listeners will experience here is a masterful TyLean tapping her keys, forever leaving an impression on listeners’ hearts. Where most individuals and acts are apt to let things slide towards the end of an album, TyLean bucks the trend and ensures that “Misery” is as contemplative as deep as any other track on the album. For me, I felt that the track reached previously unheard levels of depths, as TyLean closes up all loose threads and has to set the stage for her next album, whenever that may be. If you are a fan of goth music, or of albums that require footwork on the listener’s side, “Between 10 and 2” is a must buy. TyLean is an artist that we will hear more of in the years to come.
