AAbrogation – re-release of “Das Blut der Toten” out in July!

When it comes to musical phenomena, Abrogation is surely one of the most unique bands ever to emerge on the European melodic death metal scene. Their uncanny combination of crushing music and German lyrics caught the attention of Nuclear Blast who agreed to release one of the group’s finest albums to date – “Das Blut der Toten”. This exclusive re-release brings this forgotten metal gem back to glory…

The band’s second offering “Das Blut der Toten” (“The Blood of the Dead”) saw the light of day in 2002. The album was a perfect blend of traditional heavy metal and a prime dose of crushing death metal – such highlights as “Tyrannei Der Engel” or “Engelmacherin” are brilliant examples of this combination. As for the lyrical background, this time the German lyrics brought the listener right back into the dark ages, telling tales of witch-hunting, torture, crime and deceit. The LP was highly acclaimed by the German music press as well as the world-wide metal community. Although Abrogation never received the proper attention they deserved, the group remains one of the strongest names on the German melodic death metal scene. “Das Blut der Toten” is still one of the most original works released in Germany, and is a must-have for fans of old-school metal – heavy and catchy at the same time.

“Das Blut der Toten” will be re-released by Metal mind Productions on 27th July in Europe and 8th September in USA (via MVD). New digipak edition is limited to 1000 copies. Digitally remastered using 24-Bit process.

The beginnings of Abrogation reach 1995, when bassist RW (Rainer Wiezorek) and guitarist/vocalist Schwarte decided to form a band together. Two years later, with guitarist Poldi and drummer Paule, they recorded the demo “Screams of Soul” which contained 6 tracks with English titles and lyrics. Soon after the recording was done, Paulo left Abrogation and the band began working with drummer John Doe, who helped them during live shows. In 1998 the 5-track EP “Creation of Madness” was released, bringing the group closer to their contemporary style. It was also Abrogation’s last release with English lyrics. In 1999 the band put out their debut LP – “Handwerk des Todes”. This album ultimately shaped Abrogation’s musical style and also introduced one of their most characteristic features – the use of German language. In fact, “Handwerk des Todes” was one of the very first albums released with all lyrics written in German. Although self-produced, the LP was noticed by various metal magazines (Rock Hard, Heavy) and record labels. Eventually, Abrogation got signed to Grind Syndicate Media and this way joined the Nuclear Blast family. Soon the band began working on their second full-length offering… “Das Blut der Toten” (“The Blood of the Dead”) saw the light of day in 2002, now featuring drummer John Doe as a full-time member. Unfortunately, it was also the band’s last release for Nuclear Blast… Abrogation continued to record albums on their own – in July 2005 they self-released their 3rd LP entitled “1487”, which among other included a remix of one of the group’s older songs – “Erlkönig”. The next album was “Sarggeburt”, released by the band in January 2009. Although Abrogation never received the proper attention they deserved, the group remains one of the strongest names on the German melodic death metal scene.
