Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has shown that sequels can do better than originals in all formats, whether it be special effects, storyline, or sheer amounts of money taken in at the box office. The same thing can be said for the soundtrack, which links together old and new, rock and emo, and keeps the energy up high through the entirety of the disc.

First off, the tracks that are used in this soundtrack are fresh and new, meaning that individuals will not immediately be tired of the fare here. Furthermore, the bands that are here are a good blend of what’s happened (Linkin Park, Nickelback, Cheap Trick), what’s happening (The Fray, Theory of a Deadman), and what will happen (Cavo). Saying that, I imagine most readers have already heard the Linkin Park single, “New Divide”; it is what will bring back Linkin Paark to the minds and lips of anyone that listens in. However, this is by no means to only solid song on the track. Green Day continues their “American Idiot” / “21st Century Breakdown” type of sound with “21 Guns”, while Taking Back Sunday crafts one of the disc’s sleeper hits in “Capital M-E”.

This is due to the fact that Taking Back Sunday continues to change things up and create a sound that is unique and that is truly special. In much the same way, The Fray really breaks free from the sound that they have cultivated over the course of the last few albums and comes out with something catchy, intense, and fitting in their “Never Say Never”. The disc continues to gain energy through Hoobastank’s “Don’t Think I Love” and Staind’s “This Is It”, matching well the drama and intensity brought to the table by the movie. I would love to see this soundtrack placed alongside recordings of any of the incidental music crafted for the film. I believe that what results will tell a story that is at least as interesting as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
