Prosthetic Records Signs TRAP THEM

rosthetic Records’ has signed Seattle’s Trap Them. The band’s sound combines elements of old school Swedish death metal, punk, and d-beat and takes influence from bands such as Entombed, Black Flag, Nasum and Tragedy. Trap Them has spent time on the road with Napalm Death, Disfear, Skeletonwitch, Victims, Rotten Sound, Toxic Holocaust, and Coliseum, amongst others and has appeared at Maryland Death Fest & New England Metal and Hardcore Fest. (In fact, Mark “Barney” Greenway of Napalm Death was quoted as saying, “Trap Them restored my faith in extreme music.”) Before entering the studio to record their Prosthetic debut, due in the first half of 2010, the band will be releasing an EP through Southern Lord Records.

The band commented, “After a few months of very positive talks, we are proud to announce we have signed with Prosthetic Records. This is a step forward for the band and a move that opens up a lot of doors that we have not yet explored in the last three years of distortion. Prosthetic has been supportive of Trap Them’s modus operandi for quite some time, just as we have a great respect for the high standards in which their label is run.

We would like to thank Tre, Jake and all the rest of the Deathwish Inc. family for working so hard the last few years, releasing our records and helping us stay on the road as much as we possibly could. We felt honored to have them invest as much time in this band as they did and we greatly appreciate the efforts they made to treat us as a band they believed in.

This is the first step in the next progression of Trap Them and we extremely excited that it involves Prosthetic. We’ve built this beast on depression, desperation and blasphemy and there is literally no ending point in our sights. We function by the expression, “Go heavy or go home,” be it how we write our music, how we approach our tours, or how we live our lives. The days won’t stop and we’re ready to rage. See you all soon.”

Trap Them has released several seven inches and EPs and two full lengths, the latest being “Seizures in Barren Praise,” on Deathwish Inc. which made Decibel and Terrorizer’s year end top 40 lists, in 2008.

Los Angeles based Prosthetic Records was founded in 1998 and has released albums by acts such as Lamb of God, All That Remains, Kylesa, The Acacia Strain, Landmine Marathon, Gojira, Book of Black Earth, Skeletonwitch and Testament and many more.

Monsters of Folk was born on the road five years ago when My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, and singer/songwriter M. Ward toured together and regularly sat in on each other’s sets. Now armed with the eclectic collaborations that make up their debut album, the illustrious quartet will reconvene for several Fall tour dates. Throughout each show of the tour, the four members will be switching instruments and trading roles, maintaining the freewheeling and highly collaborative spirit of their work together thus far. In the spirit of folk-camaraderie, Monsters of Folk is partnering with Air Traffic Control, a resource for musicians’ philanthropic and social change work, to donate monies raised from ticket sales. The band will be donating $1 from every ticket sold on the tour to local non-profits.

“On a daily basis, we see how hard organizations like these work to make our communities, country and world a better place.” said Erin Potts, the organization’s executive director. “In a time when economic resources are harder to come by and organizations are overwhelmed by urgency and need, the Monsters of Folk tour’s charitable activities are a significant way to energize and support the tireless and often overlooked work that these organizers are doing.”

The Motion Sick, a band known for their Kurt Vonnegut style prose, return to the studio to tell a story of their own for the upcoming eight song EP, A History of Flight. A short story will accompany the songs with each song having its own corresponding chapter written by The Motion Sick front man, Mike Epstein, .

Amongst a backdrop of love and betrayal, A History of Flight, the first in a trilogy of concept , delves into the battle of technological advancements, in particular, aviation, to reduce human limitations while simultaneously limiting the stretch of imagination. Epstein explains, “The word ‘flight’ has two meanings – it refers to both the fantastic and glamorous ability to take to the air and the shame and fear of retreat or escape. The 1920s and 1930s marked the ‘Golden Age’ of advancements in aviation. It brought the exploration of a variety of approaches to conquering the air and set forth dreams of humanity expanding its reach to the heavens.”

Earning “Blender Breakout” for their 30 Lives video, CMJ’s Sonicbids Spotlight, and Spin’s Undiscovered Band Worth A Listen, Epstein (Guitar, Vocals), Matthew Girard (Bass), Patrick Mussari (Guitar) and Travis Richter (Drums) draw parallels to Vonnegut with lyrics ringing of social commentary.

K’Jon – “This Time”

With his first single, “On The Ocean,” currently sitting atop the Urban AC charts for over six weeks, Universal Republic recording artist K’Jon is back with “This Time,” the second single from his upcoming major label debut, I Get Around. Featuring a medley of strings, keys, guitars, and soft horns, this track is perfect display piece for the smoothness of K’Jon’s vocals. His voice is also perfect for the song’s message of realizing what you have, not taking anything for granted, and loving the person you’re with. As the song reaches a close K’Jon is joined by a children’s choir, and all of a sudden this well-orchestrated soul tune gets a bit of gospel flavor.

K’Jon says, “The song is about getting a second chance at life to express to the ones you love how you feel about them. The shape of the world is in a terrible condition. Life should never be taken for granted. Everyday you wake up is a blessing and so, “This Time” would be a perfect time to express your love. Next time is not granted to us.”

The Background:

Gettin’ around? – No matter how you slice it, Universal Republic newcomer K’Jon has already arrived. He’s just making it official on August 4, delivering his aptly titled debut album, I Get Around to stores and online platforms in time for summer, having been more than adequately introduced to urban music fans this past spring thanks to the album’s soaring first single, “On The Ocean,” which has become a radio/club classic. The magnetic hit sizzled on the nightlife grid for months as a popular ‘steppers’ hit in tastemaker cities like Chicago before rocketing last week to the top spot on the Urban AC radio chart. The inspirational song has also become the #1 Greatest Gainer at both the Mediabase and BDS charts.

Often compared to stylish hit makers such as Ne-Yo and Robin Thicke, the talented K’Jon kept the production in-house on his debut effort, with the Detroit native guiding production and writing chores on a kaleidoscope of diverse songs that includes the passionate radio hit, as well as the mesmerizing “This Time,” the cool flow of “After The Clubs,” and some dynamo ballads – including the sweeping “Ill Never Forget,” among others. Says K’Jon: “The goal with this album was to make a record that covered a lot of emotional territory – the kind of record you would be able to listen to from beginning to end and want to hear again.” The imaginative songwriter even laid down a track that plays with the superhero mystique on the clever “Fly Away.”

But the Detroit native’s rise to stardom hasn’t been a smooth trajectory all the way. He earned his stripes in the motor city’s competitive underground urban music scene, launching various indie collaborations until his breakout 2004 cameo on the electric 2 Fast 2 Furious soundtrack with the hit “Miami.” Soon, he was opening for established stars such as Ludacris, even collaborating with the talented rapper – and subsequently – many other sought-after industry song-makers, like super-producers Cool & Dre, Ginuwine, Ne-Yo, T-Pain, and others.

Known for his fearlessness when delving into multiple genres of music, including soul, hip hop and R&B, K’Jon’s debut album reflects the same tenacity, just as his first hit single would come to separate him from the rest of the pack at one of the most crucial cross-roads of his career. “It was at a time when I was still trying to establish my identity,” he says. “I wrote the song literally thinking the music industry is kind of like bobbing in the ocean. How we all wonder if and when our ship is going to come in.” Rather than deliver the song to another established star, the intuitive artist decided to keep it as his own signature calling card, creating one of the most popular urban music hits of the year.

Artillery – great reviews from European press + first tour dates!

Artillery, one of the best thrash metal bands around, returned with a brand new studio album. “When Death Comes” is their first studio release since the 1999’s “B.A.C.K”! The album is available in Europe since mid June, and has beegn released in Japan.

So far their new record is getting rave reviews from European media. Here is the one from the British Terrorizer Magazine:

“Five albums in over 25 years isn’t exactly prolific, but what these Danish veterans lack in quantity they more than make up for in quality, and, as with their four previous full-lengths, “When Death Comes” is a sterling example of melodic speed metal at its best. The intricate guitar complexities of the Stutzer brothers are still in full effect, and there are plenty of hell-for-leather speed passages, but the smooth vocals of new frontman Soren Adamson (who also produced the record) have added a new level of accessibility to proceedings, very reminiscent of Toxik at their glorious peak. ‘Not A Nightmare’ sounds like a heavied-up Maiden, ‘The End’ features an intro and outro that wouldn’t be out of place on the latest Candlemass, whilst ‘Rise Above It Al’” could easily give Testament a run for their money, being a near-perfect blend of furious thrash, driving riffage and tasteful hooks. Let’s not wait another ten years for the next one, eh lads?”

Other European magazines also rated Artillery’s new album very high:

Belgium – Rock Tribune 85/100
Czech Republic – Spark 6/6
Denmark – Metalized 8/10
France – Hard Rock 8/10
Germany – Heavy 9/10

Fitz & The Tantrums To Tour With Flogging Molly This Fall

It all started with a phone call. The X. Best to let voicemail pick that one up! YOU HAVE 1 NEW MESSAGE: “Hey, sorry to call but my neighbor has got to leave L.A in a hurry, he’s selling everything including this old church organ for 50 bucks. Do you want it?” This was worth the pain of calling the heartbreaker. “He’s got someone coming later today to see it, I don’t know what kind it is, if it works…it’s gigantic “Pay him, pay him now! Put the 50 dollars in his hand!”. “Okay but the landlord says it has to be out of the basement tonight”. 13 phone calls to piano movers and 50 dollars later four guys were trying to fit this thing through the front door. That was the beginning. “Breakin’ the Chains of Love” was written that night and the inspiration for the record was born. All the pain of splitting with someone poured out into this 5 song EP of 1960’s inspired Soul music. SONGS FOR A BREAK-UP VOL.1 was recorded entirely in Fitz’s living room, using one crappy old mic. The songs are influenced by ’67 AM radio, Motown and early Hall and Oates records. Fitz was born in France and moved to L.A. as a child. This half French, half Irish kid fended off the California rays with a lot of sunscreen to emerge as an artist with a vision. A soulful voice with infectious songs, Fitz’s music makes you wanna’ grab a tambourine and dance.

On August 11th, the debut EP, ‘Songs For A Break-Up Vol.1′, was released on Future Sounds Records digitally on iTunes. The song, “Breakin’ The Chains of Love” was featured as the opening track on the Future Sounds 33 compilation released in June and the EP unveils four new tracks.
