Dollhouse is likely the one show that simultaneously has tons of buzz surrounding it and ratings that deserve to be higher. The titular entity employs individuals termed “Actives” for the term of five years. These individuals have their personalities wiped and are pimped out to different clients; the actions taken by the Dollhouse and their Actives are shrouded in mystery, operating in secret in a seemingly-current society.

Whedon has casted the different characters in “Dollhouse” perfectly, ensuring that many of the major roles are taken up by relatively-new faces. Eliza Dushku is one exception; viewers that are familiar with Buffy or Angel will be familiar with exactly how ey has evolved over the years. Harry Lannix, Boyd here in Dollhouse, has only had minor roles in The Five Heartbeats and The Matrix to eir credit, while Fran Kranz (Topher) has as eir previous “big” roles Orange County and Training Day.

The number of extra features that are present here will further increase the already high replay value of this DVD set. Whether it is the original (unaired) pilot “Echo”, the meeting of the minds that takes place on the commentary of a number of episodes, or the deleted scenes that further explain the motivations and lay of the show’s plot, there is something for everyone that shows interest in the show. Other featurettes, going into the creative process of the show, set design, and even the possibility of the existence of some of the inventions discussed in the show (“A Private Engagement”) will further whet anyone’s Dollhouse thirst.

At the very least, the present of “Epitaph One”, the final episode of the season, will provide viewers with some hints about where the show may go when the second season begins on September 25th, 2009. If you have not had the chance to get into the show, Fox has made a hell of an effort to include information from every angle, to properly stoke and inflame viewer’s desires regarding the show.
