Recording artist, author and philanthropist Jewel is returning to her hometown of Homer, Alaska to help raise funds for the Bunnel Street Arts Center “Artists in Schools” program. She will headline a solo-acoustic concert on Aug. 19th at Homer’s Mariner Theater. Atz Lee Kilcher, Jewel’s brother, will also be on the bill. The program serves over 1,000 students annually by exposing youth of diverse socio-economic backgrounds to varied art forms and the richness of world art heritage.

“I’m so thankful for this town and all that I have been able to accomplish because of the support I received as a young and aspiring artist. When I was 15, I was accepted to Interlochen, an arts school in Michigan, to pursue my studies in visual art and music,” said Jewel. “My hometown of Homer, Alaska helped me raise the $11,000 that I needed to go. That was a critical stage in my journey that led me to where I am today. I’m happy to be able to give back and help others in this wonderful community. The people here are so talented and gifted. I’m very proud of where my family and I come from.”

Jewel has recently been on national tour, promoting her first-ever independent CD release, Lullaby. The album was produced by Jewel at her home studio in Stephenville, Texas. The 15-tracks feature 10 self-penned songs and a few standards including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” The acoustic record is reminiscent of Jewel’s twelve-time platinum album Pieces of You.

Jewel is currently writing for her next country music album, the follow-up effort to her successful launch into the format with the #1 Billboard-charting CD Perfectly Clear. In addition, she also continues her philanthropic outreach with Project Clean Water, a foundation she launched in 1997. To date, the charity has helped over 30 communities overcome their individual drinking water problems in 13 different countries on 5 different continents.

The “Artists in Schools” concert will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 19th at 7:30 p.m. at Homer’s Mariner Theater. Tickets are $30 general admission; $25 Bunnell Street Members. For additional information, please visit www.bunnellstreetgallery.org
