It seems that there is a tremendous amount of trouble present in converting casual games to titles that can stand the test of time in console format. Diner Dash is a casual game that a large subsection of the Internet audience know, and it is thus that much harder for a company like Zoo Games to do justice with the title without having detractors that may have preferred the Internet version more.

However, I feel that the DS title keeps the spirit and momentum of the original title, while adding bits and pieces that will have players coming back for more. The graphics have been shrunk down considerably (about 20 inches if one compares the screen size of a normal LCD monitor to that of a Nintendo DS), but they are no more less clear than they were in the first iteration. The sound quality has been reproduced faithfully, but there does seem to be a little bit in the way of problem with the repetitions of the sound bank after players increase the duration of their play session.

The more hands-on quality of the Nintendo DS (the stylus) makes for a more involved experience, one that scales well with the different difficulty levels present. The game’s replay value comes in the challenge of downing the Medium and Hard settings, but Zoo has ensured that beating these levels is based much more on skill rather than through simple luck. The linear nature of Flo on the Go (sitting customers down, taking their orders, and serving their food) provides players with more than just fun, as well. By creating this serial gameplay style, Zoo has taught players to value each step in the process. When other issues, such as colored chairs and upgrades, make their entrance the skillset is changed to allow players to successfully deal with extenuating circumstance. Quite an impressive experience to be had from a decidedly casual game, isn’t it? Pick up Diner Dash: Flo on the Go if you would like a title that will always find its way into your Nintendo DS.
