Sentimental stories continue to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Woodstock in the mainstream media. But the year was a turning point for rock ‘n’ roll — when music fragmented into so many styles and scenes. Prog-rock. Metal. Experimental psych. Kraut-rock. Stoner-rock. In addition to showcasing the music of some of the most interesting and exciting bands in today’s forward-thinking music scene(s), “Fog Rising” serves as a celebration of the twisted offspring of that fragmentation. San Francisco is the home of the club festival concept, not to mention psychedelia and poster art. It all started there — long before the masses passed out and latched onto Woodstock.

ANCESTORS have just released the critically acclaimed Of Sound Mind which has been called “a triumphant prog-metal ride” “that you should start listening now” by Stereogum and “a thicker and more modern version of Pink Floyd” by Synthesis. SAVIOURS’ brand new album Accelerated Living is a veritable riff-orgy that has tabbed a “big rush” by Decibel and “a fitting paean to the holy unholiness of hard rock” that “finds the foursome in meaner, leaner, riff-ravaging form than ever” by Blurt. Also as part of “Fog Rising”, WITCH will perform its only west coast show of 2009 and will feature special guest Mario Rubalcaba of EARTHLESS on drums.

ANCESTORS and SAVIOURS are available to speak with interested media upon request. “Paying homage to San Francisco’s most distinctive climactic quality, along with some of its best bands, the Fog Rising festival rolls into town. Sponsored by Tee Pee Records and art collective Secret Serpents, the event showcases a number of talented metal outfits, including Witch, 2009 Goldies winners Saviours, and Portland, Ore.’s Red Fang, along with art by local standouts like Alan Forbes and David D’Andrea. Those interested in inventive, raucous rock ‘n’ roll and visionary poster art should be sure to attend. No word on whether there will be prizes if it’s actually foggy.” – SAN FRANCISCO BAY GUARDIAN

“The aptly named Fog Rising Festival – coined by S.F. music-poster artist Alan Forbes – will be filled with weighted prog-metal that, like a fog out, will envelope all in its hazy, hypnotizing retro-riffs. The dank fest is hosted by New York’s Tee Pee Records, which specializes in bands that make old sounds sound new.” – SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
