Bailey’s and I have been on and off again friends, with my first taste of the liqueur occurring in my time at Delta Chi. We were doing shots of Bailey’s and Butterscotch schnapps, which were pretty good, while a few years later I learned that one should not take too long to down an Irish Car Bomb. However, this is my first time being stone sober when experiencing Bailey’s as well as my first time with the Coffee release by the company.

As is the case with normal Baileys, the Baileys Coffee is ideal poured over the rocks, and the additional coffee flavor is not enough to dissuade drinkers from placing it in whatever coffee that they may be enjoying. However, when the coffee is already present in the Baileys, there are a number of different concoctions that can easily be whipped up. A B-52 (Baileys, coffee liqueur, and Grand Marnier) is made easier, while the Smashing Pumpkin Shot (Baileys coffee, goldschlager, and cinnamon) is given an entirely new set of nuances with replacement of original Baileys with the “Hint of Coffee” version.

Make sure you down the bottle at a fairly steady stream; while it is true that there is a substantially longer shelf life for Baileys than many other milk-based products, the liqueur does go back within two to four years. However, the effort that was put into this spirit should ensure that imbibers have this bottle drained well before it is in any danger of going bad. If you have not had a chance to check out the Baileys coffee, make it a point to pick up a bottle at your local supermarket or liquor store. Even if one is not typically a fan of coffee liqueurs, I feel that Diageo has yet another winner on their hands.
