The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces has a hell of a history behind it. The first iteration of The Sky Crawlers comes in the Japanese-language fiction series written by Hiroshi Mori (The Perfect Insider, Doctors in Isolated Room). After that, a film adaptation was commissioned by Warner Brothers, releasing late in 2008 in the Japanese market. Xseed looks with Innocent Aces to really bring forth some of the allure of the previous iterations of The Sky Crawlers title, along with making it possible to further the line in the months and years to come.

Without having a chance to actually look at the box or information about the game further, I was expecting something more in the way of an RPG. What results with this title is something that keeps individuals in the cockpit, but does not leave individuals wanting in terms of back story or motivation. Players taken on the role of Lynx, a greenhorn flyer that looks to gradually take more authority in eir squad. The graphics that Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces pulls out of the Wii is simply fantastic, with solid approximations of gauges and the flying experience present. Joining with this realistic flair well, the control scheme is much more than simply moving around the Wii controller.

Rather, there has to be some serious coordination enjoyed by a player’s tow hands, lest the plane starts to get a mind of its own. For those individuals that have a little bit of a problem making the cockpit their second home, Innocent Aces has a TMC (Tactical Maneuver Command) that ensures that getting behind the enemy and blowing them out of the water is easy. The number of missions that are given players (nearly 20) ensure that there will be quite a few hours of gameplay invested, while the storyline is compelling enough to ensure that players will pick up some of the source material after they put away the game.
