Houston Calls are you on the other end?

If you’re looking for thoughtful lyrics, upbeat songs, and an all out dance party then when Houston Calls you should definitely listen up. Hailing out of Rockaway, New Jersey Houston Calls delivers a gem with their new disc, A Collection of Short Stories. The bands debut release on Drive Thru Records offers listeners a fun, and happy release from a world of music that has become full of sadness and anger with 11 blistering, dance able tracks. The boys from Houston Calls combine hints of pop punk with elements of power pop, resulting in one of the most catchy, hook filled debut cd’s I’ve heard in a long time.

From the opening song, “Sunrise Goodbyes,” sandwiched between poppy guitar parts and heavy hitting drum beats are perfectly positioned moog and piano lines that drive this entire disc. The lyrics will also make the coldest heart warm, and will have the ladies googly for every word. Take some of the heart string tugging lyrics from the above song “Sunrise Goodbyes;” “why give up this opportunity? if I can’t be near you then I’d rather be in hell forever I’ll think of you so just give me chances to go on .” You can also expect twists and turns throughout the entire Houston Calls album. Sing alongs, awesome breakdowns, and even a strategically placed ballad, rock this disc and take Houston Calls soaring to lofty heights.

With this release Houston Calls joins, and rivals the ranks of other dance/pop punk bands like Panic! At the Disco, Motion City Soundtrack, The Academy Is, Reggie and the Full Effect, and even predecessors The Faint. A Collection of Short Stories is definitely a disc that will make some noise for this band, and propel them up the latter of the music community. The disc just missed out on being one of the more feel good albums of the summer, but will definitely be able to keep you warm and sweaty during the cold months ahead. A Collection of Short Stories is guaranteed to both start and keep the party going all night long! Get your tickets to see them soon at a venue nearest you! Song picks: Exit Emergency, Amtrak is for Lovers, Elephant and Castle
