American Idol alum and beat-boxing sensation Blake Lewis jumped a tremendous four spots on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay Chart this week, topping the chart at #1 with his single “Heartbreak on Vinyl.” Just last month, Lewis’ song topped Billboard’s Dance/Club Play Chart at #1. The latest position makes Lewis the first former American Idol contestant to score #1 hits on both of these charts.

“Dance music has always been a passion of mine, from my younger days rocking the mic at all the Seattle raves, to making the dance floor shake now. This album represents me from my roots,” said Lewis. “I am so happy that more and more people are responding to my music – that has always been my original goal and I’m so stoked to be topping these charts, it’s such a compliment to the countless hours I’ve put into creating this music!”

Lewis’ American Idol competitor Jordin Sparks is the only other former top-two finalist to top the Dance/Club Play Songs chart and Kelly Clarkson is the only other American Idol performer to top the Hot Dance Airplay chart back in 2005.

Currently, Lewis is a guest American Idol blogger for USAToday.com as well as HollywoodLife.com, imparting his opinion and expertise on the performances of all the Idol contestants on Tuesday evenings. In addition, Lewis has a number of upcoming appearances across the country, including:

May 30, 2010 Revolution Lounge, Mirage Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, NV

June 5, 2010 Austin Pride Austin, TX

June 6, 2010 Gay Days Orlando, FL

Lewis will also be performing at the Safeway Easter Seals Gala sponsored by Coca-Cola in San Francisco on May 22nd; and will be hosting a red carpet event and doing a meet and greet with AT&T at the American Idol finale on May 25th and 26th.

Lewis released his sophomore studio album Heartbreak on Vinyl, on October 6th, 2009 via Tommy Boy Entertainment. Lewis Worked with a host of songwriters, producers and collaborators including S*A*M & Sluggo (Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco), Dave Audé (Pussycat Dolls), Rodney Jerkins (Lady Gaga, Britney Spears), and Jean Baptiste (Will.I.Am, Black Eyed Peas) on an album that is fresh and full of surprises. A “Heartbreak on Vinyl” viral video, created by his fans, was ranked on Yahoo’s Top 10 Year End list of 2009.

Lewis made a name for himself as the unconventional and charming beat boxer who was selected as first runner up on season six of American Idol in 2007. His cover of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” was the biggest selling download of the season on iTunes with over 190,000 downloads. His debut album Audio Day Dream hit the Billboard album charts at #10 and has since sold over 350,000 units to date. He created a unique persona for himself as not only a singer-songwriter, but DJ and beatboxer, drawing fans of all ages to his shows, which vary between musical performances and DJ sets.
