The BBC and the Discovery Channel have a solid track record so far having produced Planet Earth and The Blue Planet: Seas of Life, both surprisingly enthralling documentaries on topics that could easily come off as simply dull.

With their latest series, Life, they prove once again that they can turn 6th grade science topics into hours of compelling entertainment.

Originally narrated by naturalist and broadcaster David Attenborough when it aired in Europe, the American version is narrated by Oprah Winfrey (a substitution that has rattled some based on online chatter), but she does a stellar job.

Comprised of 10 episodes spread out over four DVDs, the series looks at everything from plant life and reptiles to mammals and just about every breathing thing in between. The cinematography is absolutely stunning, begging to be viewed on high definition screens.

Several years in the making, Life is just as beautiful as the other documentaries in this already impressive cannon of films.
