In the unbearable heat of summer, Drunken Barn Dance, led by Scott Sellwood of Saturday Looks Good To Me/David Dondero, and members of City Center, Canada, & Great Lakes Myth Society, challenges you to cool off with “A Winter’s Tale,” the first single available for posting off sophomore full-length, Grey Buried, out on September 21st via Quite Scientific Records.
The track – a literate, boozy amalgam of obliquely western tinged indie rock – provides the perfect introduction to the fittingly named Drunken Barn Dance. The song may be set in winter, but the mood is far from chilly, with searing guitar work and whiskey to keep vocal chords warm. Like the rest of Grey Buried, “A Winter’s Tale” is loose and rough around the edges, with a drink in hand a la Guided By Voices and The Hold Steady, recorded in one take with no instrumental overdubs.
So put on your dancing shoes, take a shot of Benadryl (always good when hanging around barns) and let loose!
