Toronto duo Bishop Morocco has remixed “Stay Lit,” the lead track off Holy Fuck’s Latin, released earlier this year. Fader premiered the remix, noting that Bishop Morocco has “scaled back some of the gradual epicness of the original and given it the Sonny Crockett-on-his-way-to-a-drug-bust treatment.”

Bishop Morocco is Jake Fairley (aka Fairmont) and Jim Sayce (Tangiers, the Deadly Snakes). As Bishop Morocco, they fuse their different musical paths to create a new kind of pop music that lands somewhere between the soundtrack to Twin Peaks and the Madchester sound. Recently released in the US via Hand Drawn Dracula, their self-titled debut album includes the single, “Last Year’s Disco Guitars” (available for posting). The track features a minimalist, regimented beat coupled with otherworldly synths, woven together by production inspired by Martin Hannett (Joy Division, The Stone Roses). The band has also released a nostalgia-inducing, subtly psychedelic video for the single, available on YouTube and Vimeo.

Zink Magazine dub Bishop Morocco, “a new kind of retro,” NYLON said they’re, “one of those rare bands whose songs we can listen to over and over again,” and self-titled magazine note that they “fall right in line with Factory Records and the many descendants of Morrissey,” offering an exclusive Needle Exchange mix from the band.

In case you missed it, you can still download the Holy Fuck twist on a Bishop Morocco song, Last Year’s Disco Guitars (Graham Walsh/Holy Fuck remix)”.

Bishop Morocco will be touring the US with Holy Fuck later this year. Dates to be announced shortly.
