22 year old Spencer Stephenson aka Botany has been made quite a splash in a short amount of time for his jaw-dropping blend of shimmering psychedelia, blissed-out pop, and instrumental hip-hop. While comparisons to Caribou and Baths are apt, the way Stephenson transforms recycled sounds into something thoroughly modern makes his music refreshingly unique at the same time. The Weatherford, TX native, who also plays drums for post-rock stand-outs Sleep Whale, recently premiered the head-nodding track “Agave” via Stereogum, which is the closer from his forthcoming ‘Feeling Today’ EP out 11/9 on Western Vinyl.

In addition, Botany will be hitting New York for this first time this week for two CMJ shows, as well as a live session on NPR affiliate WFUV’s The Alternate Side. Stephenson will also be playing the Austinist Fun Fun Fun Fest pre-party on November 4th at the Mohawk in Austin, TX. Botany’s anticipated debut full length will be released sometime in 2011. Stay tuned.
