Jeremih had a number of tracks that captured listeners throughout most of 2009, especially the oft-heard “Birthday Sex”. While there were other tracks on eir first album that really expanded eir range as a performer, I feel that Jeremih’s new album, “All About You” is something that should solidify eir as a performer in the likes of R. Kelly. The disc itself begins with the self-titled track, a song that gradually eases in fans and newbies alike. Furthermore, it sets listeners up for the different styles presented on the entirety of the album.

“I Like” is the track that was picked to be the first single off of “All About You”, and features Ludacris in a significant role. I personally like the decision to match the two up, as the more brash style of Ludacris highlights the different nuances of Jeremih’s style. The Drumma Boy (Young Jeezy’s “Put On”, Waka Flocka’s “No Hands”)-produced second single, “Down on Me” should do better on the charts than “I Like”. This is not only because of the pairing of Jeremih with 50 Cent, but rather that there is just a bigger, more sparkling flair to the track than anything else heard on “All About You”.

Unlike many rap and R&B titles, “All About You” seems album-oriented. Where there are some solid singles on the title, there is a constant flow from “All About You” all the way out to “Love Don’t Change”. Where most rap/R&B titles put a bunch of chaff alongside a few good songs, Jeremih’s mature take on the album format ensures that ey will be a significant player in the genre for a number of years to come. Pick up “All About You” at your local big box store, or dig around to find an urban-stocking independent music store.
