Few individuals are lucky enough to remember this 1972 title, directed by Radley Metzger. Fresh off the releases of Camille 2000 and The Lickerish Quartet, Score is a film that attempts to be something to everyone. Based off an off-Broadway play that had a decidedly short run (23 weeks), the title begins with a couple (Jack and Elvira Jackson, played here by Gerald Grant and Claire Wilbur) attempting to determine whom is better in regards of seduction skill. If Claire is unable to properly turn on Betsy (Lynn Lowry), Jack will have a crack at Betsy’s husband, Calvin (Casey Donovan, of The Opening of Misty Beethoven).

Where there have been a few transfers of the film in the past (most well known of which had went out of print on VHS a long time ago), Cult Epics’ version represents the definitive release of the film. The video quality is simply fantastic, with a clarity to the audio that has not been heard for nearly forty years. Instead of merely slapping the video on a Blu-Ray and calling it a day, Cult Epics has ensured that they have dug up or otherwise searched out all material about the film. The featurettes present include a nearly half-hour look into the creation of the film, with an entirely new interview with Lynn Lowry. To finish up, viewers can take on a quite illuminating audio commentary that pits Michael Bowen and Metzger together. The trailers provide a quick look into what audiences from the period were shown as the focal point of the film, but the interview and aforementioned behind the scenes featurette are by far the most interesting.

This title is one that should be sought out, no matter how hard it may be to pick up.
