Lauren Pritchard was 15 when she knew that she wanted to make music and she left her home in Jackson, TN to make it in Los Angeles. After finishing school and gigging at various events around town for years, the struggling artist found herself broke and homeless. Thanks to persistent friends, Lauren stayed in LA, and things began to look up when (the) Lisa Marie Presley offered her a place to stay. Lauren also scored a major role in the musical Spring Awakening, which brought her to New York City, and eventually she got signed to Sony Records. But she quickly discovered that the plastic-tween image they had in mind was not right for her.

Lauren explains: ”’Wasted In Jackson’ is the song that’s dearest to me because it pays homage to a place that I love – not everyone who hears the song may agree with me! But also because it refers to what inspired the whole record. Being wasted in Jackson – had that not been the case, nothing else would have happened.”

Pritchard and White, with occasional input from Ed Harcourt, collaborated in the writing and recording of Wasted In Jackson. “We all share the same twisted sense of humor,” she notes. They’re equally up for ‘messing about’ in the studio, letting Lauren play the Hammond even though she’s ‘kinda useless at it.’ This spirit of inspired abandon, coalescing around Lauren’s staggering voice (check her ear-tingling, sassy holler on the epic, strings-enhanced “Hanging Up”), make for an album – all lyrics penned by Lauren – stuffed with big, bold, confessional soul belters.
