Both songs on Two Hearts/Reluctance were written this summer while DeWitt toured in promotion of his recent Nothing Shows EP (released exclusively through Daytrotter). The tracks expand upon the cinematic, orchestral feel of Nothing Shows and find DeWitt moving in a notably different direction than either the EP or his debut full-length, Islands (Izumi Records, 2009). The driving, dance-inflected pop of “Two Hearts” follows in the footsteps of Nothing Shows’ propulsive, rhythmic closer “Hearts Beat Loud” and the delicate, shimmering uncertainty of “Reluctance” – featuring vocals by Isaaca Byrd of The Bridges – might be the prettiest song he’s penned. Two Hearts/Reluctance also continues DeWitt’s passage from a solo singer/songwriter to a collaborator: the songs were written to be played live with his current touring band of Byrd, Matt Shaw (Hymns), Jeremy Bullock (Pico vs. Island Trees), and Dylon York (Band Marino), who back him on the recordings.

DeWitt will play shows in New York and Nashville this month surrounding the release of Two Hearts/Reluctance. He’ll perform December 10th at Rockwood Music Hall in New York before returning home to Nashville for a single release show December 15th at the Exit/In, where the first 100 fans through the door will receive a free copy of Two Hearts/Reluctance. DeWitt is currently winding down a month-long trip to Paris, where he worked on a new spring 2011 EP release that will include both “Two Hearts” and “Reluctance,” and played shows in Paris as well as London.

Keegan DeWitt tour dates:

Former Brooklynite and native of Portland, OR, DeWitt is also a noted film score composer whose work has appeared in multiple critically praised films, including Dance Party, USA and Quiet City (SXSW selection, Critic’s Pick in The New York Times and an Independent Spirit Award nominee). Most recently, he scored this year’s Cold Weather, another SXSW-standout that caught the attention of Variety, The Los Angeles Times, InterviewMagazine.com, and The Hollywood Reporter, and which was recently picked up by IFC Films.
