Balance Bars are the best protein / workout bar out today. That is just a fact. However, instead of merely coming up with a terse statement about it, let me provide NeuFutur readership with the reasons for this. In terms of sheer nutrition, Balance Bars contain substantially more vitamins and minerals than other bars on the market. This is done at low calorie counts, fat contents, and higher protein levels than other bars. We received three of their varieties for review a few weeks back, and wanted to ensure that we put them through proper rigors. For each variety, we ate the bar as a meal replacement before working out. Here are our thoughts:

S’mores – The S’mores Bar was able to perfectly capture the campfire treat, from an accurate representation of the marshmellow, chocolate, and a little bit of the graham cracker that made the snack such a classic. The bar was the most filling out of the three, and was able to stick to the ribs long after I had finished eating the bar. Quite possibly, the best bar for anyone that was looking to lose a few pounds and wanted to combat the munchies.

Lemon Meringue Crunch – This is perhaps the most challenging of the three varieties. From Balance’s Gold line, the Lemon Meringue Crunch provides a fruit twist to what is traditionally a more candy-influenced flavor profile. Blending fruit and sweet, the Lemon Meringue Crunch benefits considerably from the yogurt coating and 14 grams of protein, matched alongside a 200 calorie mark.

Double Chocolate Brownie – The best flavor of the bunch. Hiding any semblance that it contains what a body needs, the Balance Double Chocolate Brownie bar is something that I found myself gravitating back towards whenever I prepared for my workout.

There are a number of different flavors and lines under the Balance bar nomen, and it is really up to you to find the best type for your workout. Balance Bar goes beyond the normal pre-workout snack in that it contains a large number of nutrients that are needed for the day, where most other bars are happy just providing a large amount of fat, calories, and protein. Pick these up anywhere, whether it be at GNC, the local Wal-Mart, or Target.
