Catherine Zeta-Jones has been a famous actress for a few decades now, but few viewers will be familiar with eir TV work in The Darling Buds of May. This massive, seventeen-hour show will provide a tremendous amount of material for viewers to chew on. The show originally hit British airwaves in 1991, comprising three series on ITV. The Darling Buds of May’s episodes are based in a large part on H.E. Bates’ works through the fifties, sixties, and seventies. The Darling Buds of May showcases the beauty of the country, providing (then) current viewers with a look into the more simple and fulfilling life that could be had in a more rural setting, rather than the bedlam and broken-down cityscape shown in shows like Bottom.

BFS’s release of this DVD set knocks quite a few dollars off the worth of the previous collection of the episodes, and puts purchasing this set into the reach of a much larger audience. At prices breaking the fifty-dollar mark, the 2011 release of The Darling Buds of May should be picked up by anyone that fondly recalls the original television run or has always wanted to get into the series.

There are a number of additional features that viewers can sink their teeth into with this DVD set. There are in-depth interviews that were conducted with both Catherine Zeta-Jones and David Jason, along with biographies and filmographies for each of the show’s major players. A sharp transfer of the show from the original television version to DVD has been conducted here by BFS, allowing the show to glow in a fashion that it has not since 1993. Buy this collection today, so that BFS will continue to dig up these great shows from Britain’s television past and allow them to be purchased without having to go through unsavory iOffer sites and the like.
