Steve Lamacq played Michael J Epstein Memorial Library’s “Amylee” on his weekly BBC Radio 2 show, which serves to introduce people to new music he digs on April 2nd. The show also featured music by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Blur, and British Sea Power. Lamacq was clearly intrigued by the idea of a nine-piece pop orchestra, wondering what “perverse musical mind” could be capable of creating one out of eight women who had never been in bands before and Epstein, who he thought looked like “a young Groucho Marx”. Listen to Lamacq’s April 2nd show here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00zxl3j (“Amylee” is played at the 20 minute mark)

You’re probably not going to believe this, so we’ll let Michael J Epstein Memorial Library frontman Michael Epstein explain. “‘Amylee’ is the tale of a brave shark that takes on a suicide mission in space to fight evil dolphins bent on destroying Earth. Our shark hero is the perfect astronaut because sharks never sleep, can’t get cancer from gamma rays, and they have to keep moving to stay alive.” What more does it take to pique someone’s interest? “Amylee” is one of ten songs on MJEML’s debut album Volume One which is due out May 10.
