Minnesota-based songwriter Jeremy’s Messersmith & his band have announced The Graveyard Tour, a new set of summer dates out to the East coast visiting and performing at graveyards in each city, as well as a scheduled NPR Tiny Desk Concert on June 20th. Infamous for his cross platform creativity, his papercraft animation Tatooine video (where he sums up the Star Wars Trilogy in two minutes), received outstanding praise and was one of PBS’ top picks for “The Music Video Makes a Comeback” feature.

Offering fans the ability to pay what they wish on his Bandcamp site, Messersmith has now put together a brand new YouTube video, where he sings a medley of popular songs in which the lyrics are commonly mistaken for something else. In the clip he presents index cards with amusing illustrations and false lyrics to famous songs whose words are most susceptible to misinterpretation. Example from above: “I wanna be sedated” has been mistaken for “I wanna piece of bacon.”

Featured as one of NPR’s Best Albums of 2010 and “Austin 100″ picks, Messersmith performed with a full band to packed audiences at SXSW. The small stage at his lauded Paste Party performance couldn’t accommodate his four person string section so they played in front of them.”Impeccable perfect pop songs…it was fantastic,” said NPR of the performance.

Messersmith will continue to perform with a full band on his US tour dates. This weekend he will play a special show at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, MN on April 9 with Dessa Darling, Chris Koza, Brian Tighe, and Lucy Michelle. The performance will include a one time performance of his “Misunderstood Medley.” Be sure to check out Jeremy Messersmith on the road this summer. More dates to be announced soon!
