Rayman has been a well-loved video game mascot ever since the original title was released for the Playstation in 1995. Over the course fo the last sixteen years, there have been a number of revamps and changes to the different systems, gameplay, and overall feel of the Rayman line. Hwoever, the same high dedication to quality has always been present in this Ubi franchise, and a shift over to the Nintendo 3DS format has not hindered the quality in the slightest.

Rayman 3D is a retooling of the classic 1999 title, Rayman 2: The Great Escape. While the original title made it onto the current-gen systems of the day (Nintendo 64, Dreamcast), Ubisoft has ensured the same graphical quality on the port over to the 3DS. Compared to the original iteration of Rayman 2, there seems to be a much easier learning curve when it comes to levels and Rayman’s own unique skill set. Aside from these changes, there is a sharpening up of the graphics and an overall more immersive experience owing to the 3D aspect of the 3DS.

There is a tremendous amount of replay potential present in Rayman 3D, and purchasing this version of the title means that one can finally put away the Dreamcast. The wide-spread availability of Rayman 3D will also allow an entirely new generation of gamers the opportunity to understand how good the title was, while having a fully unique experience from those that played the game back a decade or so. With the improvements that have been provided this title, there is no reason why Rayman 3D should not be in 3DSes all through the summer. Here’s to hoping that Ubisoft comes forth with revamps to a number of their other titles in the next few years for this console.
