I keep pretty abreast of the different DC comics’ cartoons, but I have not (until this 2-DVD set) really had the chance or the ability to properly get into the different Marvel franchises. If you are in a similar boat as me, there is no reason why you should not search out both volumes of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. This release hits on all cylinders, beginning with the unique art style employed during the DVD. While based off of contemporary cartoon design, I feel that there just has been more care taken to capture emotion and further the storyline than has been present in other superhero movies.

In regards to the different episodes captured in these two DVDs, they contain a large number of Avengers-specific heroes and villains (Hulk, Captain America, Wasp, MODOK) and have a similar type of nod to those fans that have stuck with the series for any substantial length of time. While each episode could focus on the same general set of characters, I feel that the writers of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes do well in varying up the composition of each episode.

This allows for different tones and feelings to be properly explored, in a way that older shows (think Super Friends) were never able to do. Make sure to get caught up with the show by picking up these two DVDs and then keeping an ear to the ground regarding the second season of the show – it will likely air sometime in October (if everything goes to plan). The Avengers are a tremendous team, and the cast and crew of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have done a tremendous job in making these characters live and breathe.
