New York, New York – Escape to New York, an art, music and interactive performance party from the creator of the Secret Garden Party UK, will be bringing extraordinary and sensory captivating pop up art installations to the festival experience this summer. The installations, curated by Winkel & Balktick, will be sprinkled throughout the festival grounds, popping up throughout the three day and night event, and range from visually beautiful to playful and interactive to a wondrous meditation space.

Starting in 2005 Winkel & Balktick, along with a community of artists, started transforming mundane spaces into immersive fantasy environments by using larger-than-life installation art, extravagant costumes, decadent themes, surreal performances and action-packed dance floors.

“Surreal art and performance are a key part of Escape To New York’s vision, and we’re thrilled to be presenting larger-than-life imaginary experiences to the citizens of Escape To New York,” says the creative duo. “All of the artists are very excited to give their creations a place to play in the sunshine this August.”

Escape to New York’s art installation pieces will include:

ANIMUS Arts Collective’s The Octapolis, compromised of 50 individual interlocking cells, allowing festival-goers to climb, lounge, draw and paint on it. The goal of the piece is to form a social hub of artist expression. (Photo included)

Dorothy Trojanowski’s Rubber Horses, a tribute to wild horses of Nevada, uses tire scrapes from the New Jersey Turnpike to make up the exterior and reinforced metal to create the skeletons of 3 wild horses. (Photo included)

Newmindspace, the creator of International Pillow Fight Day, presents Three Battles, which will give participants the chance to lock weapons in 3 soft artillery wars- pillow fight, mass bubble blowing, and the tapping brilliant, color-changing glowing lightsabers en masse.

Kate Raudenbush’s Braindrop, a 17-foot tall, 10-foot wide laser-cut steel sculpture and meditation space created to honor elements of water in modern time and its importance to our collective evolutionary balance. (Photo included)

Other installations will include Anakin Koenig’s Cuddlefish; Image Node’s Grand Mal; Rounder’s Rose Petals Dome; Nathan Austin’s Panda Pit, works from Kendalle Fiasco, Brooklyn Aerodrome and more.

“I can’t wait to see the art in action at the festival; its wonderful to be able to tap into such a groundswell of amazing talents. It will really add another dimension to the party as a whole,” says Fred Fellowes, Executive Producer of Escape to New York and Creator of the Secret Garden Party.

As previously announced Escape to New York will also feature 3 days of eclectic music on the main-stage featuring: Patti Smith, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, of Montreal, Best Coast, The Vaccines, The Jolly Boys, Chairlift, The Psychedelic Furs, Mates of State, White Rabbits, Reptar, Tiger Love, Au Revoir Simone, Lissy Trulie, The Postelles, The Submarines, Graffiti 6, Savoir Adore, Static Jacks and more.

The acoustic stage, DJs, speaker tent, culinary experiences and special guest performances will be announced shortly.

Coming to the US shores for the first time, Escape to New York is the first pop-up destination community and independent experiential music and lifestyle festival to take place on the Shinnecock Reservation adjacent to Southampton, New York, from August 5 through 7, 2011.
