Primal Scream is a band that has never gotten the adoration in the United States that they have around the rest of the world. While they have flirted briefly with fame here (2006’s Country Girl is the one track that I can call to mind), the band has continually been making music since 1982. Eagle Vision has placed their Screamdelica Live release onto Blu-Ray, placing a tremendous amount of additional features on it. What results in this Blu-Ray is something that anyone that is a fan of the band or wishes to know more about Primal Scream should pick up.
Screamadelica Live immediately impresses with a solid audio track and visuals that easily approximate being actually at the show. What comes across on Screamadelica Live is that Primal Scream know how to do a live show. The band is ambulatory, shifting and shuffling across stage even as different lights and colors threaten to blind viewers and members alike. The performances easily could be captured onto a studio release, while the track listing does a tremendous job in capturing the many distinct sides of Primal Scream. This track listing includes tracks like “Movin’ On Up”, “Damaged”, “Come Together”, and “Higher Than The Sun”. The band’s second set, known on the Blu-Ray as the “Rock Set”, fills out any holes that the band may have had in their discography with tracks like “Country Girl” and “Swastika Eyes”.
Along with the main show performance, the featurettes that are here further flesh out the release. This means that there is a documentary looking into the effect that the Screamadelica album had on the band and on music generally along with a “Rock Set” that increases the music quotient on the release.
