Ed Wood is known by many to be one of the best Z-list movie makers in history, but aside from the feature that was released about eir life, I do not know how many of these individuals have actually seen anything having to do with the director eirself. Smore Entertainment has just released a massive compendium of Wood’s films and has bundled it with other television specials. This 6-DVD set contains Bride of the Monster, Jailbait, The Violent Years, Hot Ice, Snow Bunnies, and a number of Wood’s other features along with two different specials that were aired about Wood.

Out of the Big Box of Wood collection, I would have to say my favorites would have to be Beach Bunnies and Sinister Urge – while they are pretty par for the course when it comes to Wood’s movies, I feel that the cast and crew on the films really glommed together to make something special.

The quality of each of these films is pretty much what an individual would expect from 50 and 60 year old titles; I do not believe that any further remastering (for the Blu-Ray format, for example) would do anything much more to clarify the video or audio here. At a current Amazon price of under $30, there is no reason that this should not be purchased as a birthday gift or holiday present for anyone that has ever expressed interested in bad cinema from the middle years of the twentieth century. Here’s to hoping that Smore continues to dig through the vaults and find the works, both famous and forgotten, by a number of other famous American directors. I know that I would purchase them if they do.
