Barsuk is proud to announce the addition of Laura Gibson to their family. They’ve been fans of her enchanting voice and otherworldly songwriting for quite some time, so it’s with happy hearts that Barsuk gets to help share Laura’s music with the world. She’s a unique and sincere personality with boundless creativity, and is lovingly welcomed into the Barsuk roster.

Born in the small logging town of Coquille, Oregon, Gibson started as an outsider to Portland’s vibrant indie scene, performing solo acoustic shows in unusual venues like AIDS hospices and kindergartens. Her previous record Beasts of Seasons, released on Hush Records in 2009, was split into two parts (Communion Songs and Funeral Songs), and its confidence and scope caught the ear of a wider audience. Since its release, Gibson has claimed a very special place in the world of modern folk music among critics, and, more importantly, in the hearts of sincere music lovers.

In her still-young career, Gibson has garnered media support and a word-of-mouth following that have helped her top year-end-lists, launch an online institution by being the premiere performer on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series, and led to all manner of adventures, from modeling for a fashion magazine in Japan to playing for a gymnasium full of prison inmates.

Laura Gibson crossed the Atlantic last week for a dozen shows in the UK. Look for Laura touring the US in 2012.
