Hailing from Michigan, Brent James & the Contraband are working hard to bring their music to the masses. Currently on the road in support of their debut CD MOMENT OF SILENCE, produced by Grammy Award winning producer Skidd Mills (Saving Abel, Egypt Central, Taddy Porter, Since October) and out now.

Brent recently sat down with Listen In.org to talk about music and life hear it here: http://listenin.org/interviews/archive/artists/James+And+The+Contraband_2100_+Brent/default.aspx

Brent explains A Moment of Silence track by track:

“Moment of Silence”
This song was written about constantly being on the move and not taking a minute to myself. I now take a few minutes to myself….

“Little Bit High”
Is about living in a small town and wanting to get out (which I did thankfully). My dad isn’t a partier but I wrote this with him in mind. He’s a retired auto worker from General Motors. It’s loosely based on him and how hard he worked for us. Much love pops.

“Furious”
Is about having an addiction. I have a lot of friends battling things so this is kind of a vibe sent there way I suppose….one in particular.

“Cloud Of Dust”
Is about new beginnings. I have a friend who pushed everyone out of her life for things that happened to her in her past. She’s since come around and moved away from the temptations that were anchoring her down. C’mon wit it sista….

“Shine Shine Shine”
This is about just letting loose. Kind of went back to high school in my mind and the girl I was seeing that had my heart tied up. The chorus is about that.
The verse is a few lessons I’ve been taught from my folks…

“My Mona Lisa”
Was pretty much thinking about my girl on this one. She’s put up with a lot of bullshit being with me in this business.

“Me After You”
Another song about moving on from someone. Bad decisions I’ve made. Good decisions I’ve made.

“Let It Rain”
This is a look back at my buddy who had a bad addiction to Heroin. I wrote this thinking of him and his story and how he was able to finally clean up. He went from living on the streets of NYC to holding a very good corporate job. I’m very proud of him. Loosely based…

“Young Love”
This refers to a girl I dated in high school. She was a total hippie chick that always seemed to be dancing in the grass when I pictured her in my mind later in life. Total free spirit. Love it.

“Sick & Tired”
This is my “middle finger” to the music biz. Plain and simple.

“Diggin Up The Past”
An obvious song about wondering what could have been. At the end of the day I’m happy with the choices I made. No regrets.
