I cannot count how many times that we have had friends over at our apartment, and all that they have wanted to see has been Modern Family. The show has everything – it was created by Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), has Ed O’Neill, and even a bit of eye candy at the end of the day (Sofia Vergara). This Blu-Ray (and DVD) release contains the 24 episodes that comprise the second season of the show; the episodes here do a great job in further fleshing out each of the members of the three couples.

These episodes also represent the highest ratings for the show; the Halloween episode alone pulled in over 13 million viewers. Aside from the main draw of the episodes, Fox has included a number of different features for viewers to chew on. The gag reel showcases the fact that the cast and crew of Modern Family can even get more crazy than they are portrayed to be on the show, while the deleted scenes provide a little additional context to the events that have occurred in various episodes. The interviews with the different families provide an additional layer of context, while the music video is a little bit of a time waster.

The Blu-Ray release of the second season of Modern Family is without complaint – the colors here are vibrant while still being realistic, while the audio is as sharp as it originally was during its premiere airing. While Julie Bowen’s Claire is perhaps the most annoying and shrill character outside of Louis from Malcolm in the Middle, eir nagging should not be a reason that one misses out on the cultural phenomenon that is Modern Family. Pick up this season set as soon as possible and get caught up before too many episodes of the new season are shown.
