While it is pretty easy to hear Rob Thomas’ music if you listen to the radio for any length of time, I feel that a great number of listeners have not had the chance to see Thomas in a live format. For those individuals that were not wono over by eir stereo recordings, picking up a copy of Live At Red Rocks in Blu-Ray is a must. The sheer amount of emotion that is brought to eir hits and album tracks is astounding, and really has made a convert out of me.
Image Entertainment has released this Blu-Ray; the camera work that is present here is astounding. Where it seems almost too common for live concert videos to miss out on different solos and bits of the action, the Live At Red Rocks Blu-Ray is set front and center for every thing that happens, no matter how small. The audio quality of this Blu-Ray release is similarly strong – every note, riff, and lyric is heard just as if Thomas is in a living room singing to you. The different tracks that were played during this concert – When The Heartache Ends, The Difference, Bent, and Let’s Dance (among many monre) showcase the sheer extent of the different sounds that Thomas can achieve.
Without a weak side to it, Live At Red Rocks should stand as a proper blueprint for anyone that is looking to do a concert video right. Bouncing between Matchbox 20, Bowie (the aforementioned Let’s Dance) and eir solo recordings, Rob Thomas tears it up for the entirety of the Blu-Ray’s 87 minute runtime. Pick it up if you would like to hear (and see) a musician that can transition from the studio perfectly.
