The Howling Reborn is one of those films that is a remake, but it strong enough to actually allow the story to be updated in a compelling and fresh way. This is due to the work put in by the actors, which are headed up by Ivana Milicevic (Casino Royale) and Lindsey Shaw (10 Things I Hate About You); despite being something to look at, the duo make their motivations and fright realistic. The camera work present in The Howling Reborn vies for dominance in terms of quality – with each quick shot or dark environment captured, viewers are transferred bit by bit into The Howling Reborn.

Anchor Bay has brought this film perfectly onto the Blu-Ray format; they have further increased the value inherent in this film by creating a commentary by the director along with a view behind the scenes. Further context is established for how the film derivates from the original The Howling, and what the steps were in making this film something that could succeed in the current period.

I believe that in many ways, The Howling Reborn represents an overall better experience than the original – there are valid claims that the title is derivative, but one has to see how the title has been worked over by Joe Nimziki. Here’s to hoping that ey can be given the reins for the franchise; I would like to see how subsequent Howling titles in eir version of the universe would be similar to and different from what were ultimately released to theatres and movies over the last thirty years. If you like a good werewolf film, give The Howling Reborn a spin – online retailers have it available for under $20.
