X-Men has continually been the one super hero franchise that has had solid titles made for it, through the course of the last twenty years. While many of these titles now are focused on the fighting aspect of the X-Men, X-Men Destiny keeps things interesting by building an action-RPG title from scratch. What results is a varied experience that stays fresh through repeated plays of the title, all with a tremendous amount of modification that can happen.

The different characters, both playable and NPCs, that are pulled from X-Men’s canon is substantive; this will undoubtedly make fans of the team happy. While a great many players will be familiar with Wolverine, Juggernaut, and Magneto, the presence of Caliban, Pyro, or Pixie in this title showcases that the design team has a solid grasp on their subject material. Building up a player’s power through talents like density control (tanking), shadow matter (extreme DPS), or energy projection (ranged attacks), the way in which one makes their way through X-Men Destiny is sufficiently different.

The two storyline paths that can be taken (either siding with the X-Men or the Brotherhood of Mutants) keep things fresh through a number of subsequent plays. With an intense focus on the graphics and audio, players’ Xboxes will be screaming at the bleeding edge environments and crystal clear voices and atmospheric noises that are rendered here. X-Men Destiny is perhaps the best Marvel-based title that we have played here at NeuFutur since the video game section was opened a few years back, and this is due to unique take on the fusion of action and planning that the design team has created here. If you are a fan of the series or of this genre of games, make it a point to pick up this title at your earliest convenience.
