Tajomaru: Avenging Blade is a title about the titular Tajomaru, who occupied a role not completely dissimilar to the highwaymen that caused problems in the American west. Specifically, Tajomaru and eir band of miscreants runs amok in feudal Japan, without any sort of law or forces to put an end to eir reign. Naomitsu (played here by Shun Oguri) is an exiled elite that has been aggrieved by Tajomaru. After Naomitsu takes up a legendary weapon, eir solitary goal is to avenge the loss of eir love, Ako. Whether ey does it or falls to the much more skilled blade of Tajomaru is the climactic part of Avenging Blade. Bodies will fall by the dozens and the action continues to be a realistic version of Dynasty Warriors. The graphics here are perfectly serviceable and do not remove viewers from the action that takes place here.

The video quality of the BD version of Tajomaru: Avenging Blade is absolutely stunning. While many companies release onto Blu-Ray with little more than upconverted versions, I feel that Funimation has taken a number of steps in providing viewers with a tremendous version of the feature. This is a Blu-Ray / DVD combo pack, so even if one does not currently have a Blu-Ray player, they can still watch the title. The combo pack idea is something that a number of different companies do, but I believe that Funimation releases the lowest-priced of them all. One can purchase this combo pack from a number of online retailers at a hair over $15. I believe that this feudal tale would be an absolutely perfect stocking stuffer for the holiday season, or for anyone that has a birthday coming up in the next few months.
